Thank You to Those Who Answer the Bell

An Independence Day Tribute

We are proud of our great nation and thankful for the men and women that serve and protect it.

by Casey Lynch • July 04, 2023

On this July 4th, I'll be out of the shop and enjoying a minor league baseball game (our beloved Spokane Indians).  My hope is that you will be able to celebrate our country's Independence Day with people you love.
But more important than a barbeque or a ballgame is taking a moment to thank and honor our country's LEAF (law enforcement / armed forces) community for their sacrifice and commitment to keeping our nation safe.

I would guess that most people have someone serving in this role that immediately come to mind.  For me, it's David Smith, a BORSTAR Operator.  BORSTAR (Border Patrol Search, Trauma, and Rescue) is an elite unit of highly specialized agents based out of El Paso.  BORSTAR is incredibly difficult to qualify for, and the agents who make it through STC (selection and training) are uniquely equipped to respond to SAR/911 calls and human/narcotics smuggling situations.  To say that this team impacts our nation's safety and saves lives on a daily basis is not hyperbole.

I'm proud to be able to call David a friend.  I take a great deal of courage knowing that he is working and putting his life at risk for the sake of the greater good.  And more than being part of one of the most elite LEAF units in the world, as well as one of the toughest guys I know, he's a good man and a blessing to all who know him.  Thank you David for answering the bell on our behalf.

Happy 4th of July, and I hope the reader has a great day of R&R.  And if the opportunity presents itself, take a moment to thank someone who has served.
